Diuretics, blood pressure medication, non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs, anti-depressants, and beta-blockers, among others, all demonstrate a "significant association" with falls in older people. On the positive side, research has revealed that older adults who take relatively larger daily doses of Vitamin D-700 to 1,000 IU-reduced their rate of falls by 19 percent. Smaller doses were not effective, though an optimal level has not yet been identified.
American Bone Health recommends 1,000-2,000 IUs of vitamin D daily particularly in the winter. Talk with your doctor about whether you should be tested for vitamin D deficiency.
