Still Not Enough Vitamin D?
Saturday, 06 June 2009 19:57
You likely have heard how crucial adequate intake of vitamin D is for your body to absorb calcium and thereby strengthen your bones. But researchers at the University of Colorado School of Medicine are now linking insufficient vitamin D intake to other serious conditions such as cancer, heart disease and overall poor health. These findings are relevant to almost every American given the fact three out of four adolescents and adults in the U.S. are now considered vitamin D deficient, largely due to low sun exposure. The Colorado study also suggests that the current daily recommended dose of vitamin D is insufficient to reduce related health problems. At American Bone Health, we recommend 1,000-2,000 international units of vitamin D per day. It is good idea to talk with your doctor about how much vitamin D you actually need to prevent these adverse effects.
